Electrical Safety Policy
Last updated October 2026
RSA Electrical Solutions Ltd (Company No. 16607672). Version 1.1.
1. Policy statement
RSA Electrical Solutions LTD is committed to carrying out all electrical and associated instrument work safely, competently, and in full compliance with applicable UK law and industry standards.
We will plan, monitor, and execute work to prevent injury, fire, electric shock, equipment damage, and danger to clients, workers, and the public.
No task will be undertaken unless the person carrying it out is competent for that work and is using suitable equipment and safe systems of work.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all directors, employees, sub-contractors, agency workers, and everyone who works on RSA Electrical Solutions LTD’s behalf.
It covers installation, maintenance, fault finding, inspection, testing, commissioning, repair, and related electrical/instrument work in domestic, commercial, industrial, and construction environments.
It also applies to low carbon electrical work, including EV charging, solar PV, battery storage, and associated technologies where undertaken by the business.
3. Legal compliance
The company will comply with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, including duties relating to competence, safe systems of work, and live working only where justified and controlled.
We will comply with PUWER by ensuring that work equipment is suitable, maintained, and used only by trained and competent persons.
Work will be carried out in accordance with BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 and any further applicable amendments, guidance, and certification body requirements.
Where our work scope includes inspection, testing, or low carbon categories, we will meet the current EAS competence requirements, including changes effective from 1 October 2026.
4. Competence and supervision
Only competent persons may carry out electrical work on behalf of the company.
Competence will be assessed through a combination of qualifications, experience, task-specific training, and evidence of continuing professional development.
Where an employee is not fully competent for a task, they may only work under suitable supervision and within the limits set by management. A sub-contractor must not accept a task they are not fully competent to carry out.
The company will maintain records of qualifications, cards, certificates, experience, refresher training, and any restrictions on scope of work.
5. Safe systems of work
A suitable risk assessment will be completed before work starts, considering electrical shock, arc hazard, isolation, access, falls, fire, buried services, live parts, and interaction with other trades.
Where the work is complex or hazardous, a method statement or safe system of work will be used and briefed to the team before work begins.
Where required, permits to work, lock-off procedures, and isolation records will be used.
Work must stop immediately if the risk assessment is no longer valid or conditions change.
6. Isolation and live work
The company will always aim to work dead, isolate supplies, prove dead, and secure against re-energisation before starting electrical work.
Live work, live testing, or live fault finding will only be carried out where it is necessary, properly justified, and controlled by competent persons with suitable tools, test equipment, PPE, and barriers.
No one is permitted to carry out live work simply for convenience or time-saving reasons.
Where isolation is not possible, additional precautions must be implemented and approved by a responsible person.
7. Testing and certification
All inspection, testing, and certification work must be carried out only by persons competent for that activity and in line with the current requirements of BS 7671 and any applicable scheme rules.
Test results must be accurate and complete, and are given to RSA promptly. RSA issues the certificates to the client.
Calibration and condition checks for test instruments must be maintained and recorded.
From April 2026, anyone undertaking periodic inspection and testing must meet the applicable updated competence requirements.
8. Low carbon technologies
The company will only undertake EV charging, solar PV, battery storage, and other defined low carbon work where the required competence, knowledge, and experience are in place.
Before accepting such work, management will confirm that the business holds the appropriate capability to design, install, test, and certify it safely.
Where competence is missing, the work must not be quoted for or accepted until training and authorisation have been completed.
9. Tools, equipment and PPE
All electrical tools, leads, test instruments, and access equipment must be suitable for the intended use, maintained in serviceable condition, and withdrawn from use if defective.
PPE must be worn where required by the risk assessment, manufacturer instructions, or site rules.
Damaged or unsafe equipment must be reported immediately and taken out of service.
Temporary supplies and site equipment must be set up to protect users and prevent foreseeable danger.
10. Reporting and enforcement
All accidents, near misses, electric shocks, unsafe conditions, and equipment defects must be reported to management immediately.
The company will investigate incidents and implement corrective actions where required.
Any breach of this policy may result in removal from site, retraining, removal from our sub-contractor network, or termination of engagement.
The company expects full cooperation from all workers in maintaining a safe working environment.
11. Management responsibilities
Management is responsible for maintaining this policy, providing the resources needed to work safely, and confirming that workers remain competent for the tasks assigned.
Management must ensure that jobs are planned, briefed, isolated where possible, and completed in accordance with this policy. Employees are supervised; sub-contractors are responsible for their own methods within the RAMS.
Employees and sub-contractors must follow instructions, use equipment correctly, and take reasonable care of themselves and others.
This policy will be reviewed at least annually and after any significant incident, legislative change, or update to standards or scheme requirements.
12. Company commitment
RSA Electrical Solutions LTD will not compromise safety, competence, or compliance with commercial pressure.
We will only accept work that we have the capability, resources, and control measures to deliver safely and to the required standard.
